Sports Day is a special time of the year where our students get together and compete in exciting and energetic games as our parents, family, friends, and teachers watch on and cheer them through to the end. As we have grown significantly in the size of our Student Body, Abroad International School decided this year to tailor the Sports Day activities to meet the needs of our students and encourage a system that promotes community, togetherness, and awareness of who we are among our classmates, both upper and lower grades.
The Elementary students were divided into cross-grade teams, meaning that each team was designated with an equal number of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders (as evenly as possible). Pre-School, Pre-K, and Kindergarten were mixed in their own versions of these teams, as well, and competed in their own version of the games and activities.
These teams were guided by a pair of teachers, one homeroom, and one specialty teacher. The students learned much about their peers in other grades, allowing a much more brotherly/sisterly camaraderie to develop naturally between them, as they practiced, trained, organized team mascots, chants, and took pride in their team color.
The pride that the students took in their teams was positive and encouraging, and as friends from the same grade were on different teams, there was always a reason to cheer for everyone, regardless of your color. We couldn’t be more happy with the results of this year’s Sports Day! We encourage you to join us next year as we continue to nurture the skills of teamwork and friendly competition, while building memories that will last a lifetime.
